The Discovery [Joseoh] | [1/25/2026]
Months strolled by atop the rotten vessel, its foul stench festering in the lungs and minds of the few passengers, who had the vitality and the will to withstand the epidemic of hideous plague which spread like wildfire among the ship’s inhabitants. It corrupted the skin, purged it from inside, forming large buboes which piled one upon the other, consuming the poor souls from within and bursting at a fateful moment, heralding the further spread of the blight and instantly leading to the suffocating death of the victim. Thus, the pestilence ravaged the unsanitary and fragile inhabitants of the ship….Except one man. The man in question exuded an aura of bravado and elegance. Wearing a waistcoat made of dark velvet silk, an exceptionally hard material to manufacture, with glinting golden buttons and symmetrical patterns of beauty, yet not of much intellectual significance. The middle-aged man was also different due to the emotional factor. An uncharacteristically ecstatic, like an inebriated drunkard, who didn’t seem to be terrified by the pestilent menace.
Though it has to be said, the man wasn’t just an aristocratic madman, but a respectable physician, thus he couldn’t bear the sight of the straggling poor souls, unautonimously marching into oblivion, guided by disease. One day, one of the blight-consumed passengers would approach the man, in hopes of medical assistance, it seemed, coughing blood all over the tall, slender frame. As any rational being would, the physician quickly took the man to solitude, to his own personal cabin, costing a minimal price….
There, behind closed doors, the “cure”-ing process, as the physician himself described, would begin….Immediately, swirling, stenching, and all consuming tentacles would sprawl out under the rotten foundation of the cabin, as the madman would take a ceremonial posture, framing the patient. Dread-filled, the patient watched as the tentacles would slowly spread through his body, as if testing and tasting, analysing…Then, like thunder, they would thrash through the eyeholes of the patient, effortlessly lifting the man off the ground…Instead of bleeding, though, the eyes of the patient filled with a red glow, as the madman began chanting…Alien syllables and phrases came out of the mouth of the physician, of which the patient understood none...However, through a mystical way, he did resonate with them, could feel them tangibly, as if they rankled through the body, transfiguring it through pain and agony…
The procession lasted around an hour or so, after which the patient fell asleep inside the cabin, with no trace of buboes or infestation of the skin. After such a miraculous healing, despite the frightful rumours surrounding the whole incident, many, many patients would take the leap of faith and utilise the physician’s services…Soon enough, the pestilence has been completely eliminated on the ship. Naturally, such a turn of events spurred many to believe that the physician had a mystical nature, being an angel of god or, to the contrary, a devil in disguise. Though the madman quickly dismissed both sides of the argument, once they escalated, offering an opportunity to be educated and learn his ways instead…. The keen masses from both sides of the argument would naturally be interested at the prospect of such a proposition, thus eagerly accepting it and beginning their education of what he had called, “Lihutak”.
As such, by the time the voyage has reached its end, the curious few who have become the students of the aspiring madman would make significant progress, transfiguring their own flesh with ease…Thus, the physician offered those who had abided by his ways to continue the journey with him. The fascinated and inspired members of the tiny sect excitedly announced their consent; they would follow the path to the city of Adytum together.
