From Echoes of the Flesh

Upper Siberia, Unknown

05.01.19??

It’s colder today than it has been in the previous days. I’m fearing that it’s going to snow today, possibly some time in the noon or nearing nightfall. Not good for the flesh, especially for Josef. Not exactly easy to handle extreme temperature changes when you’re as large as he is. I guess Mira will figure out a way to keep him warm. She always does.

06.01.19??

It’s been snowing all day. Josef’s natural heat has been keeping most of it at bay, fortunately. The Twins have been talking about increasing the amount of feed for Josef so he can store some more energy. I don’t know the full story though, only caught a few pieces here and there while I was carrying some wood back to my house. It’s getting too cold around here. We’re gonna have to find some sort of large animal like a bear or maybe some sort of moose for more layers.

09.01.19??

Kars spotted someone sneaking around the woods. Said he didn’t look like any normal hunter or the like from the rural villages. Not like they come near us anyways. He said that they were wearing some sort of vest and white clothes, to match with the snow, and some… weird helmet. I think it’s just a hunter, but he seems adamant otherwise. Probably just strayed too far away from their little village and got lost.

11.01.19??

Our guardians have seemed… on edge, lately. Well, I think they are? It’s hard to tell, without a face, or… any features whatsoever. But something about how they carry themselves when they walk around the village and Josef. Kars swears that it’s because of those hunters he saw. Complete nonsense.

13.01.19??

Cut down some more trees today. Making way for Josef’s growth. Mira says he’s about due for another growth spurt, so we’re working overtime getting meat and other such stuff for him to stay healthy. Hopefully he gets nice and big. Big enough that Ion himself would live in him. Wish I could live in him too, but only Mira and the Karcists have their living quarters actually inside Josef. Bet it’s warm in there, but we’re all stuck above ground in these Ion-damned houses.

22.01.19??

Josef’s done with his expansion. Way bigger now, the Karcists are talking about moving some people into him. Hope I’m chosen, it’s getting too damn cold.

25.01.19??

Kars came back again. Said there were more of them than before. They had some sort of patch on them, couldn’t read what it said though. Just said it had three letters, “MTF”. Abbreviation for something, not sure what though.

28.01.19??

People showed up to the village today. Said they were “researchers”. Very poorly too, a child could speak better than them. We told them we didn’t take too kindly to outsiders, especially the ones with the filthy automations that they had with them, especially that.. “Radio”, they called it. Unfortunately our message didn’t seem to get through, ‘cause now we’re seeing more of them just along the treeline.

31.01.19??

They’re still here. I don’t like them. No one else does either. But they are keeping their distance from us, so I guess it’s okay, for now.

01.02.19??

Turn of the month. Nothing interesting happening lately. Josef is still fine, Mira says that he’s actually better than he has been in a while. Probably because the snow has let up a bit since that huge storm a few weeks back that we had. We’ve started cultivating our own meat instead of subsisting off of local wildlife, Karcist says it’s to lessen the impact we have on the environment. Hopefully that means the guys lurking around go away too.

The Cathedral

02.02.19??

Had a weird dream last night. I woke up outside a cathedral, with a small book. I tried reading a couple chapters but they didn’t really make all that much sense. Well, it was weird. I could read them and understand the words, but as soon as I flipped the page I couldn’t recall anything. It was so odd. I remember a Kiraak inside the cathedral. Considerably smaller than Josef, barely even covered a small wing of him. What was interesting though, was the fact that so many different Nalkans seemed to inhabit this Kiraak. None of them followed the same sect, they all adhered to ones that I’ve never heard about. I’ll have to talk to the Karcists about it at some point.

???

03?.02?.????

I had another dream of the Cathedral. Their priests threw me into the Kiraak’s womb and when I woke up I was in what seems to be some sort of desert. I always complained about the coldness, but… I’m beginning to miss it already. The dust burns my lungs and hurts my eyes. Maybe if I dream about that cathedral again I can go home… Either way, I should try and find some sort of outpost or something to help me.

Day 2

Dreamt of the cathedral. Jumped into the womb, woke up still in this desert hell. Spent most of the time wandering the dunes trying to find anything sembling civilization. Found a colony, they were not very nice to me. Barely escaped from a lucky sandstorm, but got lost. Will find somewhere to sleep for the night and continue my search.

Day 3

Same dream. Made some progress in there, though. Did some exploring. The cathedral worships some sort of squid god. Doesn’t make sense to me, but then again not everyone has heard the word of Ion.

Day 4

Found a Kiraak today. Told them my story, they welcomed me with open arms. I suppose these people will do. Their dialect is weird, though. Can’t tell where it’s from, but it sounds way too formal to mine. These guys hate technology as much as I do, so it’s fine. The Kiraak is large too, large enough for its own library, and I even get my own room inside. Probably has to be bigger, on the count of how hot the sun gets.

Day 5

Got new robes, way lighter than the furs I was using. Super flexible, too. Been spending a lot of time down in the library reading as many books as I can, trying to see if I can get back to Josef. Learned that this place is called “Nerivia”, and is controlled mostly by the “Daevites”, the ones who enslaved our glorious Ion. Explains the experience at the colony. Other than that, this place seems to be some sort of dumping ground for groups. There’s us Nalkans, which, from what I’ve gathered, seem to be from Ion’s glory days, groups that are from present(?) day, and even from the far future, with disgusting automatons.

Nerivia

Day ???

I’ve forgotten about this journal. Much time has passed since I last wrote in it, however. I joined this sect’s “Solomonari”, and help keep the knowledge of the group. I’ll admit, not much has happened since then however. I found this while I was clearing out my housing area within the Kiraak. The dreams of the cathedral have slowed since the last time, but there was one notable event. It’s hard to recall, but I vaguely remember joining up with a bunch of Nalkans and members of the Triad to assault the cathedral. It was a mess, with so many deaths. Ultimately, we were unsuccessful. I’ve never woken up more confused.

Day ???

A new faction, well, a faction that previously wasn’t very active politically within Nerivia, suddenly attacked many places along the desert. We took in refugees from the FBC (Federal Bureau of Control) and UIU (Unusual Incidents Unit) the night before as we had intercepted their communications and got our allies into our Kiraak. We fought them, the “Federal Bureau of Public Safety”. We thought that they were going to harm the old Kiraak, the dead one that we had to abandon sometime before I arrived. So we attacked them. In fact, we pushed them all the way back to their base where they couldn’t harm anyone else. But they dropped smoke using their abominable technology, blinding us and setting us back. They used the cover to launch one of their disgusting flying machines into the air. They firebombed the Fae’s city, the Burial Mound. They also dropped a “Bunker Buster” on the Anderson Robotics’ facility. Unfortunately, it did not explode, and those reprehensible slugs live another day. Though, these pale in comparison to their final target. They dropped some sort of plant killing gas onto the only water source outside of the colony. All the plant life around the oasis died almost immediately, and the water turned this… sickly orange color. Completely undrinkable. I think us and those Daevites might actually have something in common for once- the need to get rid of these horrendous beasts. Hopefully we find somewhere for these stragglers to go, now that the oasis is gone.
