Solomonari:Articles/Order Of The Cascading Garden

From Echoes of the Flesh

//: Order Of The Cascading Garden

Dice | 1/29/2026

Overview: The Cascading Garden is a small sect of wandering neo-sarkic priests that have a Kiraak hidden deep in the Aokigahara Forest beneath a wooden church. The sect is responsible for spreading the belief of the Nälkä by developing new sects and Kiraaks for those groups to settle in. The group can be dated back roughly around the Edo Period of Japan and the Kiraak that they have called home is presumed to be older than that by its own residents.

There have been many tales recorded in history throughout Japan that have spoken about a secretive cult that could manipulate their own flesh, tracing the stories back to the Cascading Garden. Further research has been found that the extent of their influence has reached multiple groups of yakuza all around Japan at one point in time. Though entering the modern era, it is unknown if the sect has any ties to anything within the nation.

The “Gardeners”, they call themselves, are not numerous by any means with the only obtained document mentioning their population being back during World War 2 at around 500 members. Assuming that they had suffered casualties as well due to the war, they could be well under 300 to 200 members by now. But regardless of their numbers. There are two different variations of Gardeners.

There are the Gardeners that are responsible for spreading the religion and development of Kiraaks as well as the sects that will occupy it. They are called “Kanrisha” and — take the translation with a bit of salt — it is translated into “Administrator” but often used as “Caretaker” instead. The other variation is called “Kasei-Fu”, translated as Housekeeper. They are responsible for cleansing dead Kiraaks and maintaining currently active ones. The Housekeepers are lesser in number but are significantly less human, as they are modified heavily to have fire-spewing capabilities, often in the form of new organs but rarely as magical casters.

It is a rare occurrence for members of the Cascading Garden to meet in their own Kiraak which they call “Theia”, but whenever they do, it is often to coordinate new priorities and orders, often listing how many sects they have created and how many Dead Kiraaks have been found and/or neutralized. They then update their database, cooperating with Solomonari from the sects they choose to maintain contact with. The last they were seen gathering had been shortly after the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001, where they had allowed observers to know of their ‘sudden’ change of plans to exit the North American ‘Gardens’.

Interview 1 with Priest-37:

“What is your name?”

“Aria. You may call me Aria.”

“Thank you…Aria. For allowing us to interview you. This won’t take too long.”

“Now, what are you to the Garden? I’ve heard that a few other members looked to you for guidance.”

“Hehe, I am merely a child of the Ozirmok, just as they are. And they also take care of the gardens that they’ve grown. Just as I had in my youth.”

“.....How old are you? You don’t look older than thirty!”

“Oh you shouldn’t ask a woman her age, you know, but thank you for the compliment!”

“I apologize…it was just information I hadn’t known.”

“Oh, like you’ll remember it. You researchers will probably just categorize me with a number. Let us be honest with one another.”

“Perhaps- but I must continue with the interview. Why are you allowing us to watch so easily? Isn’t this information you want to keep safe?”

“Normally, yes, but either way, you’ll send armed forces here sooner or later.”

“Excuse me?”

“We can freely give out information about what we are and what we do but you haven’t gone into much of the specifics. You don’t know where we’ll go at all. You only know where we gather, so it is safe to assume that you’ll have your armed forces targeting this place when we gather again.”

“But there would be no reason to eliminate you unless you develop a sect that actively brings harm to the general populace.”

“We are prepared for such an event, because eventually, one of these sects will. Of course, there is also the recordkeeping side to this. You will have other researchers learn about this, some may not be interested, some will and may search for us. We are just giving them a chance.”

“So you also plan to recruit other people into your faith by having us document it? But we’ll give this the highest security clearance to avoid that.”

“Leaks happen. Besides, you've been plenty exposed as well. Aren’t you curious about being a part of this?”

“I can’t say I haven’t given it thought…”

“See? You’ll return home and your organization will suspect your loyalty to them. You may be killed on the spot when you leave this place.”

“I-”

“Don’t worry, we can promise your safety here. As a sign of trust, I shall give this to you.”

“An apple? This seems rather cryptic.”

The researcher has yet to return. However an email has brought this document to our attention. An attached photo was provided, a bitten apple laid on grass.
