Saarn ( The Coiled Shadow, The Whisperer, The Judgement of Ion) is one of the High Karcists/Klavigar of Sarkicism. She is the patron of mystery and secrecy, being called upon to reveal hidden secrets and for assistance in assassinations and schemes against the enemies of Sarkicism.
Saarn was born a humble servant in the household of an exceptionally wealthy Daeva family. Throughout her early years, she experienced constant abuse and mistreatment of various sorts, which fuelled her deep wrath towards the Daeva. In her teenage years, she finally took the opportunity to slaughter the family. Having stashed a dagger and gotten her hands on a destructive poison, she proceeded to poison and then brutally murder the family.
Though this act of bravery did free her of the abusive household, she was still caught for her crime and sentenced to execution, transferred to the fortress-prison of Kurst. Bound yet unbroken, she awaited her punishment with dignity and honour; however, the sparks of Ion’s rebellion were already stirring during that period. Thus, on a peaceful desert night, the Grand Karcist led the charge into the prison, utilizing both his strategic cunning and the powerful carnomancy of Nalka, to quickly dispose of the garrison and liberate the prisoners. Hearing Saarn’s story after the bloodshed, Ion did find it particularly impressive, thus taking her as his first personal disciple, a Klavigar. Soon , Saarn excelled in both in her stealthy ways and the manipulation of flesh, founding her own assassin’s regiment and diligently educating them.
Throughout the whole rebellion, Saarn served as a vital aspect of Ion’s force, herself and her underlings successfully eliminating key Daevite figures and stirring political disability and unrest throughout the whole Empire, facilitating its fall. In addition to that, she served as an expert informant and spy, delivering critical information and details to the Klavigar and Ion personally, allowing the Karcist’s force to excel against impossible odds and come on top of the bloodiest of battles. As such, the revolt soon succeeded, overthrowing the Daevite rule and establishing the Kalmaktama Empire.
Soon, the Kalmaktama Empire began its expansion throughout the whole Bronze Age world, meeting its arch-rival, the Mekhanite Empire. The philosophical and geopolitical disagreements soon led to a militarized conflict, with war being declared from both sides. Having no other option to stop the expanding Kalmaktama Empire, the various nations of the Bronze Age period, such as the Greek city-states, the Kingdom of Egypt, the Persians, and other ancient civilizations, also joined the conflict, initiating the First Occult War. During the brutal conflict, Saarn’s skills and mastery came to great use once more. Being an excellent infiltrator, she disrupted the supply chains of the enemy, causing massive civilian deaths and massacres in the backbone of the enemy force. Thus, the malign acts lead to massive loss of discipline and morale , leading to wider outbursts of unrest and revolts, which stalled the military operations of the enemy coalition significantly, allowing the Kalmaktama Empire to gain an edge.
Nevertheless, the enemy-coalition, sustaining enormous and overwhelming amounts of resources and technological advancement in the form of the Mekhanite machinery, began pushing the Nalkan force back into the deep territories of the empire, slowly yet steadily capturing province by province, culminating at the siege and battle of Adytum, the capital of the Kalmaktama Empire. The unmerciful and horrendous bloodshed lasted hours, causing colossal casualties to both sides, until a scathing moment occurred, when the leader of the Mekhanite Empire, Bumaro, fought The Grand Karcist. The two immensely powerful beings clashed for hours, yet with the power of the allies, Ion was defeated, but not killed, disappearing off the material plane, alongside the city of Adytum.
Afterwards, the empire fell apart and the different tribes of the empire scattered throughout the world. Saarn herself took on a new identity and began operations to protect and strengthen the influence of the Sarkic Cults, in order to revive the once-powerful empire and bring back the Grand Karcist, Ion.
