Use discussion for questions about a page, proposed corrections, sources and review. Keep the article itself focused on the subject.

Start or join a discussion

  1. Open the page's Discussion action. A red link can mean its talk page has not been created yet.
  2. Use Add topic where offered. Give the topic a specific heading, such as “Source for the expedition date”.
  3. Describe the problem and link the relevant section or revision. Suggest a change if you can.
  4. Reply with the available Reply tool. On a plain source talk page, use the same section and sign your comment with ~~~~; the wiki replaces it with your name and a timestamp.

DiscussionTools supplies reply/topic controls on compatible talk pages. When you use those controls, it handles the signature for you. In source mode, indent a reply with a colon if needed; avoid changing somebody else's comment to make your point.

Ask for a review

Say what needs deciding: a factual correction, a source, approval of a draft, or a continuity decision. Document status records the result; simply saving a page or moving it into an archive does not approve it.

For a quick question, the community Discord is also available. Link the page and put any lasting decision or source back on its discussion page so future editors can find it.

Keep private discussions private

Public talk pages, user talk pages, summaries and uploads are public. Discuss Gatekeep material on the matching Gatekeep talk page or a staff-approved private channel. A category or a spoiler warning cannot make a public discussion private.

Registered accounts can normally use public talk pages even if they cannot edit articles. Protection and blocks can still limit changes; see Echoes of the Flesh:Access levels.
