Fleshcraft: the sacred art of manipulating flesh and blood with one’s power and will. The curious practice of the craft in an attempt to achieve great heights, with some enhancing the body, others creating life itself. Adytites are known(to those who do) to be the most proficient in the craft and have conducted numerous rituals, trials, and experiments under the philosophy of Nälkä to better themselves or others. While most of these practices continue to be founded and used, there are some under this magic that are seen as truly heinous and unwise to perform, even amongst the cult. Many Adytites have performed miracles to extend lifespan and achieve immortality, and many practices have been studied and mastered to be performed on oneself and others. However, there is one ritual that is seen as a truly heinous and dark practice to commit, even amongst the other Adytites. Though it has many names, all have settled on one that best explained what it was in four words: Art of Self-Eating.
The Art of Self-Eating is the discipline of attaining immortality through the body’s constant self-consumption and regeneration. The process is simple: the body breaks itself down, destroying any older flesh, blood, and bones, and transforming said parts into energy for the fresher surrounding area of the body. The energy gained would force the surrounding area to regenerate what was broken down and replace it with newer flesh, blood, and bones. This process occurs continuously in the body, enabling a person to survive without food, as any surplus energy generated is circulated throughout the body. The practice was intended to achieve immortality, rapid recovery, long endurance, and a youthful state of the body. Unfortunately, there came more pain than achievement in the practice. Adytites who attempted the ritual but failed had found their bodies splitting open, resulting in death by blood loss. Those who succeeded in completing the ritual found themselves in worse pain; they felt their body tearing and consuming itself, and the recovery of the flesh was said to have felt as if their body was stretching out, trying to tear itself off. This would drive these sacrifices mad with insanity and pain, forcing them to find ways to break from this curse, but none were successful. Ultimately, this ritual was seen as a torture for the people, and the higher-ups of the Sarkic Cult forbade the practice to be used and erased evidence; well, not all of it.
A conversation between a Neo-Sarkic and a Proto-Sarkic Member:
“Did you bring the supplies?”
“Yes, I brought everything on the list you gave me. I will have to say, this is a lot of preparation for something this small. These supplies were not easy to get; the outcomes just seem worthless for what is about to be sacrificed.”
“Do not dare call this ritual ‘small’ and ‘worthless,’ you feeble worm! I am about to achieve my greatest wish yet! To become something closer to the gods and to be free from the possibility of death.”
“I can not see what good this will cause. You want immortality, and there are many other ways to achieve this, but you decided to go with something experimental and not yet fully understood. We have not been told of the outcome; you should not perform this.”
“If you are against this, then why bother to assist me with the ritual in the first place!? You Protos are always so frightened of the new and always stay secluded from the rest of us. The most I have witnessed of you people is of old hags and harlots wandering. If you do not want to be a part of this, then get out!”
*sigh* “I am only curious about what will happen tonight. If you wish to proceed, then go forth. I will merely watch from the side.”
“Good, watch and learn; true greatness will be born, and I will stand above the rest.”
The Neo member then performs the ritual as the Proto member watches at a distance. During this, it was noted that the body of the Neo-Sarkic began to twitch and distort, and cries began to rain around the room. In the end, all that could be heard were screams.
“AHHHHHHHH, NO, THIS CAN NOT BE, WHAT AGONY HAS BECOME OF ME!?”
“What is going on with the body, it is pouring blood and flesh all over again and again!?”
“END MY SUFFERING, THIS IS NOT AN ACHIEVEMENT, THIS IS A CURSE!”
In an attempt to save his fellow, the Proto-Sarkic took a dagger and sliced the head off the body, but to no avail. The screams continued to pour out, and the body began to recreate the lost flesh from the stem of the head as well as the base of the neck from the other part of the body. It was witnessing two new bodies being created, with blood pouring all over, and flesh cutting and tearing itself apart, scattering all over the place. All that the Proto-Sarkic could do was run for assistance.
